Accessibility
Steerable is for people who run businesses, and that includes people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, zoom, or other assistive technology. Here's what we do, and where we're still working.
This is a draft. It hasn't had its final legal review, and the details in brackets are still to be filled in.
The short version
- We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA.
- Steerable works with a keyboard, follows your system's text size, dark mode and reduced-motion settings, and works on phones.
- We haven't finished testing with every screen reader yet. If something gets in your way, tell us and we'll fix it.
1.Our goal
We aim for Steerable to meet WCAG 2.2 at level AA, the standard most accessibility laws point to. We check new screens against it as we build them.
2.What we've done
- Keyboard: everything you can click, you can also reach and use with a keyboard, with a clear outline showing where you are. A “Skip to content” link jumps past the menu.
- Screen readers: pages use real headings, landmarks and lists. Buttons that show only an icon have a spoken label. Switches and checkboxes say whether they're on or off, and confirmations and errors are announced as they appear.
- Readable text: text meets AA contrast in both light and dark mode, and everything still works when you zoom to 200%.
- Color isn't the only signal: labels like “Something came up” or “Paused” are always written out, not shown only as a color.
- Your settings: Steerable follows your system's dark mode, and turns animations off if you've asked your device to reduce motion.
- Phones: every screen is built to work on a small screen, with large tap targets for the main actions.
- No passwords to remember: you sign in with a link sent to your email, or with Google.
3.Where we're still improving
- We haven't yet done a full test with screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA and JAWS) or had an independent accessibility audit. Both are planned before launch.
- Sign-in links expire after one hour. If you need more time, you can request a new link as often as you need.
4.Tell us what's not working
If something in Steerable is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, email [email protected]. Tell us the page and what happened, and what you use to browse if you're comfortable sharing it.
We'll reply within 5 business days, and fix it or find you another way to get it done.
