Terms of Service
The agreement between you and [Company legal name] (“Steerable”, “we”) for using Steerable. We've kept it as plain as we can.
This is a draft. It hasn't had its final legal review, and the details in brackets are still to be filled in.
The short version
- Steerable gives your business an AI operator, your COO, that works for you: it runs routines you approve and brings you decisions.
- Your COO acts in your name. What it does with your accounts, on websites and toward your customers is done by you, and you're responsible for it.
- You make sure you're allowed to do what you ask it to do: the sites and services it uses, the information it collects, and the laws of your business.
- AI makes mistakes. Check its work, and don't treat it as a lawyer, accountant or other professional.
- Your business data is yours. We use it only to run Steerable for you, and we don't use it to train AI.
- AI use is included in your plan, up to a monthly limit. You can cancel any time and take your data with you.
1.This agreement
These terms apply when you create an account or use Steerable, including the website, the app, your workspace, the browser extension and the open-source engine when it's connected to Steerable. You agree to them when you tick the box as you set up your workspace, or by using Steerable. If you use Steerable for a business, you confirm you can agree on its behalf, and “you” means both you and that business.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information and is part of this agreement.
2.Your account
You need to be at least 18 to use Steerable. Use an email address you control: we sign you in by sending a link to it, so anyone with access to your inbox can get into your account. Keep it safe, and tell us right away at [email protected] if you think someone else has gotten in.
You're responsible for what happens in your account, including anything done by people you give access to and by your COO.
3.Your COO acts for you
Steerable is a tool. Your COO is software that works on your instructions, and we don't watch or check what it does for you. Everything it does, it does in your name and on your behalf: emails it sends, messages it answers, things it posts or orders, payments it makes, accounts it signs up for, information it collects, and changes it makes in services you've connected. Legally, those are your actions, and you're responsible for them and their results, as if you had done them yourself.
- What waits for you, and what doesn't. Your COO brings new kinds of work to you as decisions. Once you approve a routine, or choose “always allow” for an action, it does that work on its own, again and again, without asking each time. Approve only what you're happy for it to do unsupervised, and check your timeline. You can pause a routine or take back a permission at any time.
- It can be wrong. AI makes mistakes: it can misread a message, get a fact or a number wrong, or act on outdated or misleading information. Read drafts before you approve them, and check what it has done.
- It isn't a professional adviser. Nothing your COO says, including our playbooks, is legal, tax, accounting, financial, medical or other professional advice. Check anything important with a qualified person.
- No promised results. We don't promise any outcome for your business, like time saved, sales or savings.
4.Accounts, websites and information you give it
Your COO can use services you connect, websites you log in to for it (in our private browser or through the extension in your own browser), accounts it signs up for at your request, and pages on the web. When it does, it does so as you. You confirm, and you're responsible for making sure, that:
- you have the right to use every account, login and website you give it, and to let software use them for you;
- using them this way follows their terms, which you agreed to and which apply to you, not to us. Some sites don't allow automated use, and a site may limit or close your account because of it;
- you have the right to collect, keep and use any information it gathers for you, including from websites, and you follow the laws that apply to it, such as privacy, copyright and database laws;
- the details you give for accounts it signs up for are true, and you're the holder of those accounts.
Those services and sites aren't ours. We don't control them, and we aren't responsible for what they do, for changes that stop your COO from using them, or for limits, blocks or closures of your accounts there. You can disconnect anything at any time.
5.Your business and the law
You run your business, and you're responsible for following the laws that apply to it and to what your COO does for it, wherever you and the people you deal with are. For example:
- privacy and data protection laws for information about your customers, staff and anyone else your COO handles. For that information you're the one in charge of it (the “controller”), and we handle it only to run Steerable for you;
- marketing and anti-spam laws: only contact people in ways the law allows, and keep the permissions you need;
- consumer protection, employment, tax and record-keeping laws, and any licences your business needs;
- telling people they're dealing with AI, or that a message was written by AI, where the law requires it.
Don't use Steerable to make decisions that have legal or similarly important effects on people (like hiring, firing, lending or renting to them) without a person reviewing them.
6.Plans, payment and AI use
Steerable is a subscription. You'll see the price and what your plan includes before you pay. Plans renew automatically each billing period until you cancel. Our reseller, Lemon Squeezy, sells the plan to you and handles payment, sales tax and VAT, and refunds, so their terms also apply to the purchase and their name is on your receipt.
AI use is included in your plan, up to a monthly limit. You can see how much is used in Settings, and we tell you when it's close. If you reach it, work that needs AI waits until the next month or until you change plans. Routines that don't need AI keep running. We'll never charge you for AI use beyond your plan without asking first.
If we change prices, we'll tell you at least 30 days before the change affects you, and you can cancel before then.
7.Your data
Your business data stays yours, including your workspace, documents, messages and everything your COO creates or collects for you. You give us permission to store and process it only to run Steerable for you, keep it secure, support you, and meet our legal obligations.
We don't sell your data, and we don't use it to train AI models. Each business runs in its own separate workspace, so your data doesn't mix with anyone else's. The Privacy Policy has the details.
8.Fair use
Don't use Steerable, or let your COO be used, to:
- break the law, or help anyone else break it
- send spam, or contact people who haven't agreed to hear from you
- mislead, impersonate, harass or harm anyone
- get into systems, accounts or data you're not allowed to, or get around their security, like CAPTCHAs, paywalls or blocks
- collect information about people without a lawful reason, or collect sensitive information (like health, financial or children's data) about them
- overload a website or service, or disrupt it
- infringe anyone's copyright, trademarks or other rights
- try to get into other people's workspaces, or around your plan's limits
- copy, resell or reverse-engineer Steerable
If something you're doing breaks these terms, or puts other people, other customers or Steerable at risk, we may stop it, pause your COO or suspend your account, and we'll tell you why. If someone tells us your use harms them (for example, a website owner), we may look into it, share the facts needed to deal with it, and act on it. To report misuse of Steerable, email [email protected].
9.Keeping Steerable running
We work hard to keep Steerable available and your data safe, but we can't promise it will never be interrupted. We sometimes need to do maintenance, and we keep improving Steerable, which means features can change. If we remove something important you rely on, we'll tell you ahead of time.
10.Cancelling and closing your account
You can cancel at any time. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for, and we don't charge you again.
Before you leave, you can export your data. After your account closes, we delete your workspace within 30 days, and copies in backups within 90 days, unless the law requires us to keep something longer.
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or doesn't pay. Unless it's urgent or the law prevents it, we'll warn you first and give you a chance to fix it.
11.If your use causes a claim against us
If someone makes a claim against us because of how you or your COO used Steerable (for example, what it sent, posted or collected for you, a website or service it used for you, or information you gave it), or because you broke these terms or the law, you'll cover our reasonable costs of it, including legal fees, damages and settlements, and help us deal with it. We'll tell you about the claim promptly, and we won't settle it in a way that puts a duty on you without asking you first.
12.Responsibility and limits
Steerable is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we don't give any promises or warranties beyond those in these terms, including that Steerable or your COO will be accurate, error-free, uninterrupted or fit for a particular purpose.
To the extent the law allows, we aren't responsible for:
- indirect or consequential losses, like lost profits, revenue, business, customers or data;
- what your COO does on your behalf, including actions you approved or allowed, or that follow from routines you approved;
- mistakes in what the AI writes, decides or does;
- other services and websites, including what they do with your accounts, like limiting, blocking or closing them.
To the extent the law allows, our total responsibility for any claim about Steerable is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that the law doesn't allow us to limit, or rights you have as a consumer that can't be taken away.
13.Disagreements
If something goes wrong, please talk to us first at [email protected]. Most problems can be fixed that way. These terms are governed by the laws of [Jurisdiction].
14.Changes to these terms
If we make an important change, we'll email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you keep using Steerable after that, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, you can cancel before then.
